Restorative Nursing Services
The Restorative Nursing program at Lutheran Sunset Home focuses on helping residents maintain their current skills so they can remain independent for as long as possible.
Help to Maintain Muscle Strength, Coordination, & Balance
When residents are strong, with good balance and coordination, they’re able to perform many of the basic tasks required in their daily lives.
Our Restorative Nursing/Therapy program is managed by a Certified Occupational Therapy Assistant (COTA) and provides skilled physical, occupational, and speech therapy services. The program provides short-term transitional therapies for recovery and return to previous living arrangements.
Restorative Nursing includes some of all of the following:
- Therapeutic Exercises to Reduce Pain and Inflammation
- Upper and Lower Body Strengthening
- Range of Motion Exercises
- Coordination Exercises to Help with Eating, Grooming, and Dressing
- Transfer Training (to and from various surfaces)
- Splints or Other Protective or Assistive Devices
- Ambulation and Balance Programs to Reduce the Risk of Falls
- Wheelchair Positioning and Modifications to Enhance Comfort
Restorative Nursing is offered for all residents and will be administered according to each resident’s individual care plan.
If you have questions about Restorative Nursing services for your loved one, contact us for more information.
Memory Care Services
The early stages of Alzheimer’s and various forms of dementia can be disorienting. Our memory care unit offers a home-like setting for a small number of residents. The memory care unit offers all the comforts of home with common living areas, kitchen, and bathroom facilities. Residents dine family-style, offering opportunities for socialization and storytelling.
A Calm, Quiet Environment
The memory care unit is a secure unit. Only staff and the residents’ families and friends visit this area to reduce distractions and discourage over-stimulation that can be disconcerting to Alzheimer’s and dementia residents. The unit is quiet, with no overhead paging or excess noise, to promote a feeling of comfort and serenity.
Most memory care residents have private rooms and all are encouraged to participate in daily activities. The activities are designed to retain current skills and preserve memory including:
- Looking through Picture Books of Loved Ones
- Painting
- Cooking
- Reading
If you have a loved one suffering from memory loss or the early stages of Alzheimer’s or dementia, we encourage you to contact us to check availability for placement in our memory care unit.
